Plastic Foams from Corn

A new loosefill packaging made from corn, designated PWUH, has at last achieved price competitiveness with polystyrene. PWUH weighs less than other bio-based plastic foams, at about one pound per cubic foot, although it still doesn't match polystyrene. Unlike polystyrene, PWUH is non-static, which makes it ideal for shipping sensitive electronics. For $250,000 - $500,000 an entrepreneur could start a business in a rural community. IAPC is ready to license this technology and staff will help to locate markets as well as overcome the problem of shipping from cornbelt locations.
