INTRODUCTION

The Industrial Agricultural Products Center (IAPC) is a multifaceted organization uniquely positioned to bring together multidisciplinary teams, including research faculty from the departments of Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Biological Sciences, Biological Systems Engineering, Business Administration, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Food Science and Technology, and Marketing. Working independently and with clients, these scientists, engineers and business experts strive to solve the technical and business problems inherent in new process, product, and market development.

Several laboratories maintained by the Center provide the means to offer a number of capabilities and services to clients.

These faculty also teach students to be more aware of environmental and economic issues faced by rural Americans. Our students dedicate themselves to developing the scientific and business skills which will transform our abundant agricultural resources into value-added products. IAPC's director, Dr. Milford Hanna, has faculty appointments in the Biological Systems Engineering and Food Science and Technology departments at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2002, the Biological Systems Engineering Dept. won the Universitywide Departmental Teaching Award for its outstanding record of accomplishment in teaching programs.

The benefits of IAPC research are numerous:

Mr. Loren Isom is our Technical Assistance Coordinator. Growing up on a Nebraska farm gave Loren a deep appreciation for the challenges faced by farmers, and a desire to make sure that agriculture remains a viable business for families and entreprenuers. He earned a B.S. in Agribusiness from the University of Nebraska (1990) and an M.S. in Agribusiness from Arizona State University (2000). An agricultural exchange to Europe, monitoring research experiments with university cooperative extension, business management for an agricultural research company, and project management for a saline agriculture project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have given Loren experience in the lab and in the field, in the U.S. and abroad. He's here to serve those who want to put their ideas and resources into action, by connecting people with the appropriate expertise and resources to see their project through to completion.
